Wild watermelon juice suppresses the production of melanin by the skin in a cell culture model

The addition of wild watermelon juice to melanin-producing cells (mouse melanoma cells) suppressed melanin production by the cells. This result suggests that wild watermelon juice might be effective in suppressing the occurrence of spots and dullness resulting from melanin production.
What is melanin?

In human skin, an enzyme called tyrosinase, activated in response to UV-ray exposure, catalyzes the conversion of tyrosine, an amino acid, into melanin. Melanin protects cells from harmful UV rays by absorbing or scattering them. However, continuous exposure to UV rays leads to overproduction of melanin, which contributes to the emergence of spots and dullness of the skin.
